Program Highlights

Working with partner agencies, producers, veterinarians, and industry groups, the State of Minnesota is committed to eradicating bovine tuberculosis (TB) from our state, both in livestock and wildlife and returning Minnesota to TB-Free Status.

Current TB Status:

The Plan:

  • Minnesota has applied for an upgrade in status of both zones. The majority of Minnesota would be TB Free and the small area of NW Minnesota would become MAA.
  • Stricter requirements than those required by the federal government would remain in place to assure that any disease that might remain does not spread from the MAA zone.

Livestock Management:

Wildlife Surveillance:

  • All 27 confirmed bovine TB-positive wild deer found since 2005 have been found within a 10-mile radius of the first confirmed positive cattle herd.
  • The observed prevalence of TB in wild deer has been declining since 2007; all of the recent positive deer have been older animals.
  • DNR will continue to conduct fall hunter-harvested deer surveillance annually until five consecutive years with no TB-positive deer.
